Kitefoil
Coaching
in Langebaan, South Africa
with Rob Claisse
Why Langebaan?
Langebaan is one of the best kitefoiling locations in the world. Cape Town and the surrounding areas may be known for strong winds and big air, but Langebaan often delivers moderate, steady winds—perfect for kitefoiling.

With flat water and consistent breezes of 12 knots or more almost every day through the summer, it’s an ideal spot to progress your foiling. And while I may be biased, I believe I’m the right coach to help you get there.

Kitefoil Coaching for All Levels

Aim
The goal is to give you a solid understanding of how to kitefoil, correct any fundamental mistakes, and build the confidence to progress independently.
Kitefoiling progression varies—some riders pick it up in a single session, while others need a few more. Whatever your pace, I’ll make sure the learning is safe, efficient, and enjoyable. I’ll stop bad habits before they form, help you progress faster, and ensure you have fun as you begin this new chapter in your kiting journey.

Aim
In a 2-hour session we’ll usually focus on one or two key skills, while also fine-tuning the fundamentals you already have dialled in.
We can work on:
- Stance and speed control to ride faster and with confidence
- First gybes and foot changes
- Adding downloops to gybes (arguably the most valuable kitefoiling skill!)
- 360s and a full range of tacks: Heel-to-Toe, Toe-to-Heel, Push, and Roll tacks
- Advanced skills like ski stance, sitting down, strapless or strapped jumps, and even “round the worlds”
Whatever your level, the aim is progression—pushing your foiling to the next stage with clear, practical steps.
Learning the basics with High Palms
I only coach foiling, not first-time kiting (you need to be able to kiteboard before your can learn to kitefoil) or beginner winging.
If you are starting from scratch, my colleagues at High Palms — right here on the lagoon — will get you riding, and then I can help you as when you want to progress further.

Rob Claisse / Kitefoil Coach
Why am I coaching in Langebaan?
Because it’s my favorite foiling spot in the world! Flat water and reliable wind almost every day make Langebaan the perfect place to progress your wingfoiling.
I’ve been coming to South Africa for 23 years and living in Langebaan for the last 8. I never get bored of foiling here—every year I return to the UK having made a big leap forward in my riding, and now I can help you do the same.
Why trust me to coach you?
I’ve been kiteboarding for over 26 years, kitefoiling for 10, wingfoiling for 6, and teaching wind sports in one form or another for nearly 21 years. I created the Progression series of instructional DVDs, app, and streaming service, which have helped over 200,000 people learn and improve their kiteboarding, kitesurfing, and kitefoiling.
In recent years, alongside coaching partner Danny Morrice, I’ve run leading kitefoiling camps around the world—and now wingfoiling too. I also co-authored the British Kitesports Association’s kitefoiling syllabus and was lead coach for the RYA British Youth Team for Kitefoil, training the youth squad on their journey to the Olympics.
I love foiling, I love figuring out how to teach it, and ultimately I want to ensure everyone gets the most out of their time on the water.
